One piece of advice for women starting their triathlon journey? You get out of triathlon what you put in!!

I live in Athlone and am active member of Athlone Tri Club and Committee.  I am a level 2 Triathlon Ireland Coach.  Involved in coaching the junior members of Club and helped to set up the junior section two years ago.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE SPORT OF TRIATHLON?

"After watching the European Championship in Athlone in 2010 I promised myself that I was going to do a triathlon. I couldn’t swim and had a fear of the open water!!! So I took lessons and kept plugging away and eventually completed my first triathlon in 2012."

IN WHAT WAY DOES BEING A PART OF A CLUB HELP YOUR TRAINING?

"Being part of a club is what makes the whole experience fun.  There are times when we have to train on our own due to our day to day activities  but the group  training is always the best.  The group cycles, the turbo and track sessions are always more motivating."

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE THING ABOUT TRIATHLON?

"The people you meet and the fun that we have at races and training sessions."

Olivia McCartin - Bike

PLANS FOR THE 2020 SEASON?

"Ironman Lanzarote and the BMW Triathlon National Series and BMW Duathlon National Series."

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO MOST ABOUT BEING A 'beyond the finish line' ADVOCATE?

"Getting the word out there to other women that this is a great sport for everyone, don’t let any one element put you off, it’s the most rewarding thing that you will ever do. Just go for it!!"
