Introducing 'Run Your Neighbourhood'!

We want people from all over Ireland to join us and #RunYourNeighbourhood on Saturday and Sunday, the 19th & 20th of December!

Introducing ‘Run Your Neighbourhood’, supported by Triathlon Ireland's Official Partner BMW! This free six week plan is designed to help you to train to run 5k or 10k (virtually!) with others from all over Ireland!

New to Running or Getting fit!

Starting on Monday, 9th November - there is something for everyone! If you are new to running, you’ll be able to concentrate on building your Run/Walk fitness to completing a five kilometre run in six weeks. If you are a more seasoned athlete, the 10 kilometre plan might be the one for you. You can choose to complete your first 10k or set a new PB after six weeks of training! The plans are absolutely free and available to everyone, you don't have to be a member of Triathlon Ireland to take part!

The Plans

There are two plans to choose from, designed by Triathlon Ireland National Head Coach Michael Black. Michael works with Ireland’s top triathletes every day, so he knows what he’s talking about! You can download the plans for free to your phone and then you will also have the option to print them out.

On the plans you will notice that Michael has included a 'Strength & Stretch' session and a 'Mobility and Flexibility' session. The 'Strength and Stretch' sessions are with High Performance Coach Lynne Algar and can be accessed on the Triathlon Ireland Facebook page. The Mobility and Flexibility videos will be loaded to the Triathlon Ireland YouTube channel.

Training Peaks

For those of you who love the data (who doesn’t!), the plans are also available via Triathlon Ireland’s Official Training Software TrainingPeaks. You don’t need a subscription to access the plans, a free TrainingPeaks account will mean you can add the plan to your profile and track your progress day to day in the TrainingPeaks App. Once you register with us, you'll be send a link to access the plan on Training Peaks.

Get your friends involved!

At the moment many of us are training on our own, Run Your Neighbourhood (RYN) will hopefully help keep you motivated and provide a goal to work towards, bringing us to Christmas time. Time to improve that 10k time!!

RYN is a great way to virtually train with your friends and family who don't do triathlon...yet! If you have a friend/family member who you think would like to do a 5k, send them the link and get them signed up! 

If you have always wanted to do a triathlon, but it seems too daunting, let's start with Run Your Neighbourhood! The beginner 5k Run/Walk plan is designed for those who are new to running and will help you to complete your first 5k run.

Our clubs will be getting involved too, so if you'd like to get in touch with your local triathlon club for some moral support and motivation, let us know! 

Register for #RunYourNeighbourhood

Registration is very easy, and free! There are two steps to get registered for #RunYourNeighbourhood!

1. Register on ResultsBase here, you'll then receive an email with your plan.

You'll notice there are two versions of each plan - one is for those who would like to print it out and stick on the fridge to keep motivated! The other version you can keep on your phone for easy reading. The third option is to use the Training Peaks app to manage your training. Simply download the TrainingPeaks app from your app store, register for an account, and apply the programme you want to do. The link to the programme will also be included in your registration email.

2. Lace up your runners and get started!

We will be giving away spot prizes each week for those taking part, and running competitions on our social media so be sure to tag us in your walks and runs!

On the weekend of 19th and 20th December, everyone will log their five or ten kilometre run on - and we’ll have some awesome prizes to give away throughout the weekend! We’ll send out further details closer to #RunYourNeighbourhood!


Training Safety & Covid-19 Guidelines

It's important to stay safe and healthy when training. Before you start to train, please read our Safety Tips for Training on Your Own.

In addition, a reminder that everyone taking part in Run Your Neighbourhood must ensure to abide by all public health guidelines relating to Covid-19.

If you are in the Republic of Ireland this means running your neighbourhood within a five kilometre radius, until Level 5 restrictions are lifted. If you are based in Northern Ireland, please follow the current restrictions for your local area. 

Please maintain social distancing and public health guidelines for your area at all times. Triathlon Ireland members can refer to the Return to Training Protocol for full guidelines.
