Interested in starting out on the Technical Official pathway in 2019? There are a number of Local Technical Official courses coming up nationwide to help you get started. The course is free and open to Triathlon Ireland members (over 18yrs) to attend. 

Local Technical Officials

The Local Technical Official qualification is aimed at individuals who are interested in becoming a volunteer Technical Official and has been designed to provide attendees with the knowledge required to begin officiating, as well as covering the soft skills needed to develop as an official.

The Local Technical Official courses taking place over the coming months are as follows:

  • Dublin - 23rd February - National Sports Conference Centre, National Sports Campus, Snugborough Road, Dublin
  • Galway - 16th March - Raheen Woods Hotel, Athenry, Co. Galway
  • Cork - 23rd March Radison Hotel, Little Island, Cork 
  • Belfast - 30th March Northern Ireland Commonwealth Games Office, Belfast

The role of the Technical Official

Technical Officials (TOs) play a key role in the safe running of events nationwide and in the continuous improvement the sport of triathlon. TOs come from all sporting backgrounds - from those with vast triathlon experience to those who only recently began in triathlon. The TO's role is primarily to make sure the event is fun, safe and fair. The ITU officiating pathway consists of five levels and is linked between Triathlon Ireland and the ITU. This pathway allows Technical Officials to progress the level of event they are eligible to officiate at, National Events to ITU events.
