International Women's Day 2019

Lost Sheep Bike 2018

International Women's Day is a chance to celebrate the inspiring women that are part of the triathlon community. Female participation in our sport is currently at 35% and growing! This figure is one of the highest rates of all endurance sports but we believe female triathletes are still under represented in our sport.

Triathlon Ireland are a proud member of the '20x20' campaign from the Federation of Irish Sport. As part of our pledge to the initiative, we are committed to increasing the number of women participating in triathlon by 20% by 2020. Our "Equally Inspiring: Women in Triathlon Participation Strategy 2017 - 2020" is central to our pledge and we are working hard to implement the strategy and introduce more women to the sport at all levels.

TI Women's Participation Lead, Anna Grealish, highlights the importance of the 20x20 campaign for our sport;

"The 20 x 20 campaign is a fantastic way to create a shift in how we see women in sport. It is so important to have strong role models especially for the younger girls. We want to inspire women and girls to take part in all aspects of triathlon and the #ShowYourStripes campaign will help to do that for the current and next generation."

"We launched our Equally Inspiring Strategy in 2017 with the aim of increasing participation across all areas of triathlon. So far we have seen an increase in females taking part in the sport, more female coaches, more female technical officials and more junior girls taking up triathlon. We want to create opportunities for personal development, for leadership and for mental health and wellbeing. Our plan up to 2020 will aim to support, develop and inspire females in our sport."
