With water temperature at 21.8c in the lake it was a non-wetsuit swim. Dunne exited the water with the main pack followed by Jackson a few seconds later. Out of transition the first pack got away with Dunne in the lead pack and Jackson following closely in pack two.

By the 10k bike the first and second packs had come together and were navigating the country roads and city streets at breakneck speed in the searing 28c heat.

Dunne Runs Strong

Out of T2, Dunne had a strong run to eventually finish in 12th position as he progressing steadily up the rankings in his last number of races.

Jackson had solid performance in his first European outing of the season which has been delayed through his studies and an ankle injury picked up in February. He finished 45 seconds after Dunne in 30th place from the 70 strong field to get his season up and running.

Orla Walsh Holten ETU 2018

Walsh 11th

In the Junior women Orla Walsh had a fantastic swim coming out of the water with the leading athletes. Away on the bike with four other triathletes she maintained this strong position into T2. On the run Walsh faded a little as temperatures neared 30 degrees but finished in a strong 11th position from the 50 participants.

In the senior women’s race, Jemma Speers lost touch with the main pack on the bike as temperatures reached their highest point of the day. She put in a gutsy performance as she pushed on through the cycle and run on her own.
