Twelve awards will be decided by public vote, panel vote or a combination of both in 2018, with all award winners recognised for their accomplishments at the Triathlon Ireland Awards Night on Satuday, 17 November.Tickets for the awards are selling fast - you can secure yours for the biggest night in triathlon by calling the Triathlon Ireland office on 01 274 1032 during business hours where payment will be taken over the phone.AWARD CATEGORIESThe award categories are listed below in alphabetical order. The closing date for submission of nominations and for votes in applicable awards is 5pm sharp on Thursday, 1st November 2018. Following this time all public submissions will be closed.CAROLINE KEARNEY AWARDThe Caroline Kearney Award is given annually to recognise exceptional contribution to the sport of triathlon by a female athlete.The award is decided by a panel consisting of Triathlon Ireland's President, CEO and Women's Lead.CLUB OF THE YEARThis Club of the Year competition seeks to identify triathlon clubs – be it small, medium or large – which have performed in an outstanding manner over the course of the last 12 months.The award will be decided by a panel of Triathlon Ireland staff members on foot of nominations from clubs.Judges shall consider the following criteria:Evidence of carrying out successful participation campaignsEvidence of good governanceEvidence of contributing to the promotion of triathlon as a wholeCommunity InvolvementNOMINATE YOUR CLUBclub COACH OF THE YEARThe Triathlon Ireland Club Coach of the Year award recognises a coach who has demonstrated a sound ability to develop and improve individual and/or club performance throughout the year or who has had an noticeable impact on their club training sessions through the contribution of their time while promoting fun, fairness, participation, respect and adhering to TI policies and procedures, including the Code of Conduct.The coach must meet the following initial criteria to move onto the next stage:Hold a current TI membership (non race or race licence).TI coaching qualification.All relevant safeguard documents up to date.TI will accept nominations through the survey below, outlining why the individual is being nominated.The survey scores will be weighted and used to score the coaches. This will be done by a panel of three Triathlon Ireland staff.MAKE A SUBMISSION FOR COACH OF THE YEARHIGH PERFORMANCE ATHLETE OF THE YEARHigh Performance Athlete of the Year is open to any athlete who has finished in Top 15% of the Elite or Professional field at an Elite ITU level, SuperLeague, Ironman or Challenge, or other similar international standard multi-sport event.Athletes who have broken national records or surpassed previous best Irish results on the professional triathlon circuit will also be considered.The award will be decided by a panel of staff members from Triathlon Ireland's High Performance Unit.JUNIOR ATHLETE OF THE YEARAthletes eligible for Junior Athlete of the Year are those who have won the 2018 Junior National Triathlon Championships, finished within the top three positions of the 2018 Super Series table, finished as the first junior athlete in an individual Super Series race or have finished in top 15% of the field at an ITU race.In addition athletes who have had significant international results may be considered.The award will be decided by a panel of staff members from Triathlon Ireland's High Performance Unit.AGE GROUP TEAM IRELAND AWARDThe Age Group Team Ireland award seeks to recognise an individual athlete who has shown commitment, team spirit, performance or contribution during an ITU or ETU event.Any athlete who had represented Ireland at an International ITU or ETU event in 2018 is eligible.The final decision will be made according to the above criteria by a panel of Triathlon Ireland staff members and Team Ireland volunteers.PARATRIATHLETE OF THE YEARParatriathlete of the Year will be awarded to an athlete who has shown exceptional performance in an individual race or series of races over the 2018 season.The award will be decided by a panel from Triathlon Ireland's Paratriathlon Unit.RACE OF THE YEARAny race which hosted a BMW Duathlon National Series or BMW Triathlon National Series event, Super Series event or National Championship event in 2018 shall be eligible for the Race of the Year Award.The award will be decided by a mixture of technical criteria, decided by a panel of Triathlon Ireland events and operational staff members (80%) and public vote (20%).The technical criteria will consist of Event Organisation (submission of event plan; quality of marshals, transition, goodie bag, finish line and entertainment); Technical Officials report, Communication with Triathlon Ireland and race officials and speed of submission of race results.CAST YOUR VOTE FOR RACE OF THE YEAR HERESPIRIT OF TRIATHLON AWARDThis award recognises those individuals who illustrate the principles of the positive spirit of the sport as displayed through acts of sportsmanship and leadership in multisport, with no deference to athletic ability.Any current Triathlon Ireland member shall be eligible for nomination in this category and can include (but is not limited to); athletes, coaches, volunteers, technical officials, club committee members and race directors.The nominee should be someone who fits one or more of the following criteria:embodies the spirit of the sport, contributing with a selfless, inclusive attitude;has achieved something extraordinary within or because of triathlon;has overcome the odds to be involved in triathlon;has inspired others to strive for their personal best within triathlon.Nominations should be a written or a video entry. Written entries should be 300 to 600 words in length and videos should be no more than four minutes in length. Entries should outline why this Triathlon Ireland member should be recognised with this award.Communication will be sent from Triathlon Ireland via the following channels to generate nominations for the award:email sent to all Club Secretaries outlining the award and the award nomination process;Triathlon Ireland website;Social Media Campaign.NOMINATIONS SHOULD BE EMAILED TO DIGITAL@TRIATHLONIRELAND.COM.The winner will be notified by Monday, 5th November 2018 and allocated a free ticket to attend the Triathlon Ireland Awards Ceremony.Selection PanelTriathlon Ireland Director of OperationsTriathlon Ireland Marketing & Communications Dept RepresentativeTI Staff or Board RepresentativeTECHNICAL OFFICIAL OF THE YEARAll qualified Triathlon Ireland Technical Officials (technical delegates and referees) who have been appointed to a National Series, National Championship or Super Series event are eligible for this award.Judging criteria will be each Technical Officials collaboration, fairness and commitment to the role.The decision will be made by a panel of Triathlon Ireland staff members and Technical Official Committee members on foot of requested feedback from relevant race organisers, examination of Technical Official reports and quality of communication of each candidate with Triathlon Ireland.TRIATHLON IRELAND HALL OF FAME AWARDThe Triathlon Ireland Hall of Fame serves to recognise, honour and commemorate those individuals, groups and entities that have demonstrated excellence in multisport and inspire others to elevate their performance, participation and involvement in multisport.CATEGORIES OF ELIGIBILITYElite athletesAn athlete shall be eligible for nomination in this category if he or she, while licensed as an elite athlete by Triathlon Ireland, competed with great success in national or world events over a period of years; demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, and contributed in other ways to the betterment of multisport. Achievements in all disciplines governed by Triathlon Ireland may be considered. To be nominated, an elite athlete must have not competed as an elite athlete for at least three years prior to consideration.Age-group AthletesAn athlete shall be eligible for nomination in this category if the athlete, while licensed as an age group athlete by Triathlon Ireland, competed with great success in major national or world events over a period of years; demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship; and contributed in other ways to the betterment of multisport. Achievements in all disciplines governed by Triathlon Ireland may be considered.ContributorThis category is intended to encompass a broad array of people and activities associated with the disciplines governed by Triathlon Ireland. A contributor shall be eligible in this category:A. If he or she has made significant contributions to the growth, reputation, character, and/or success of any of the disciplines governed by Triathlon Ireland. Contributions in a wide variety of categories may be considered, including, but not limited to sport pioneer; event organiser; event official; coach; volunteer; and/or service to the governing body;or,B.
