Sports Capital Programme 2018 Opens for Applications

The Lost Sheep_Pedal

The Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport Sports Capital Programme Portal is now open for 2018 applications. Funding through the programme is a great way for clubs to acquire the financial resources to help build the infrastructure and develop the club. Through the scheme, Triathlon Ireland affiliated clubs can purchase equipment that may be needed for training or safety and invest in other club facilities.

a good opportunity for clubs

In 2017, €89,525 worth of grants were awarded to Triathlon Ireland clubs through the programme. Fifteen clubs in total benefited from grants ranging from €800 to €11,500. Naas Triathlon Club were one of the clubs that benefited from the grant in 2017 and, as club member Niall Duffy outlines, it was "well worthwhile and a real boost for the club". The club has invested in two areas to benefit members; race management and training.

In purchasing water safety equipment like open water swim buoys and leg mounted safety devices, the club hope to help new members feel more comfortable in the open water. An innovative idea from this club is that pool swim packs containing paddles, fins and pull buoys are now available on deck for new members that need the use of equipment before purchasing their own. Naas TC have also purchased some turbo trainers for winter bike training session as well as a portable public address system and a gazebo for on-site race administration using the grant.
