National Weekend Round-Up: 7th & 8th July With temperatures hitting late twenties this weekend, athletes were met with dry but extremely warm conditions in Sligo, Cork and Wicklow, a different type of challenge! Base2race harbourman triathlonThe National Standard Distance Championships and Round 6 of the BMW Triathlon National Series took place at Wicklow Triathlon Club's Base2Race Harbourman Triathlon on 8 July. Trevor Woods followed up his second place at the Centra Fastnet Schull Triathlon with a win in Sligo. Finishing two minutes behind him junior James Mintern finished in second place with fellow Cork TC member John O'Connell in third, making it a clean sweep of the podium for their club.In the women's race, Annemare Power (Cork TC) and Kathryn Fahy (Limerick TC) finished within 50 seconds of each other for first and second respectively. The standard distance course has a lake swim and is based in Hazelwood Forest. Heather Foley won the women's race in a time of 2:15:48 to also finish in second place overall. Sean McFadden won the men's race.
