2018 Reviewed: BMW Triathlon National Series The BMW Triathlon National Series - Ireland's premier age group competition. 2018 signified a great summer of racing, with seventeen races featuring triathletes racing to be the best in their five year age group.Athletes come from all over the country to each race in order to earn points towards their overall series ranking. An athlete’s 4 best scoring races in a season, of which 1 must be sprint distance and 1 must be standard distance, determine the triathletes ranking in his or her age group. The 2018 series featured 10 sprint, five standard and two middle distance triathlons spread around the country.Women's BMW Triathlon National SeriesAt the end of 17 races, just eight points separated the top three in a highly competitive women's series. The winner of the women's BMW Triathlon National Series is Ellen Vitting. The Tri an Mhi club member showed top form throughout the race season, starting with a second place in the first race of this year's series at Tri795 Carlow. Vitting finished her season a win in the final race of the series, Pulse Port Beach, ensuring her place at the top of the podium. In an impressive debut triathlon season, Becky Woods featured on the podium of every race she took part in, including wins at Two Provinces Triathlon and Dublin City Triathlon. Amy O'Keeffe completes the overall standings in this year's BMW Triathlon National Series after a strong season featuring a bronze medal in the Standard Distance National Championship at the Base2Race Harbourman Triathlon. men's bmw triathlon national seriesThe men's BMW Triathlon Series was won by Cork Triathlon Club's Donncha Kiely. Kiely started his season with a win at Centra Fastnet Schull Triathlon and followed this win with two second places - Hook or by Crook Triathlon in Waterford and Jailbreak Triathlon in Cobh. Second and third place in the series went to the 40 - 44 age group with Newry TC's Finbar McGrady finishing second and Enda Bagnall from Edenderry Triathlon Club in third. Finishing second in this year's BMW Triathlon National Series completes a summer of racing that also included a European medal for Finbar McGrady.
