Ennis Tri 2016 3

In a guest post, Ennis Tri Club tell us about the race; and the Try-a-Tri and Junior events held on the day.

The wet conditions on Saturday last did not deter the field of over three hundred entrants for iTri in Ennis. Children as young as six and adults ageing well beyond sixty took part in the annual “Pat Keogh Construction, iTri Inis triathlon” which was hosted by Ennis Triathlon Club at Ballyalla Lake on the outskirts of Ennis Town.

A large number of spectators were on hand down by the lake and out on the bike and run course to cheer on the weather beaten iTri entrants. Competitors travelled from far and wide to take part in what is a increasingly popular club event on the triathlon calendar.

Junior and Try-a-Tri Events

The children’s event was a huge success this year. Children of all age groups competed in the Swim, Cycle and Run events on closed roads around Ballyalla Lake. Ennis Tri Club's Junior section is going from strength to strength and this is a testament to the hard work put in by the Junior club Committee.

There was a full schedule of events on Saturday morning. The junior events kicked off at nine am and ran through the morning. There were over eighty juniors in all competing across all the age groups. The Try a Tri race started at twelve thirty, this event consisted of a two hundred meter swim, a twenty kilometre cycle and a five kilometre run. This was followed by the National series Sprint triathlon at one pm.

The partner charity for this years “Pat Keogh Construction, iTri Inis triathlon” was the Liam Boland Fundraising appeal. This appeal is in aid of Liam Boland who is originally from Conolly, Co.Clare and now lives in Perth Australia. Liam was involved in a debilitating accident on June 3rd last. A white Collar boxing event has been organised in Tracey’s West County Hotel on September 30th with the proceeds going to aid his recovery. We were happy to have some of the boxing contenders from this event come out and help Marshal iTri this year. More information about this event can be found on Facebook on the “Liam Boland fundraising appeal” page.
