Hugh McAtemney Appointed to Rio Games

Triathlon Ireland technical official Hugh McAtamney has been selected by the International Triathlon Union for the Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games.

This follows a selection process involving the world governing body's sport department, technical committee and executive board which ratified the decision. Hugh was proposed by Triathlon Ireland.

He has vast experience in the role, having officiated at numerous races across the country and at the 2012 London Olympics. Hugh is also a past president of Triathlon Ireland from 2002-2006 and was heavily involved in bringing the European Triathlon Championships to Athlone in 2010.

A total of 42 men and women have been appointed as technical officials for the games. 15 of this number have prior experience of officiating at an Olympics.

ITU President and IOC Member Marisol Casado described the selection as “an extremely high honour. "It takes an incredible amount of work to reach this level, and I congratulate all of the Technical Officials who will travel to Rio,” he said.
