Age Groupers prepare to qualify for 2017 Triathlon Championships

Hell of the West & Two Provinces - AG Qualifiers

The 2017 World Grand Final Triathlon Championships will be held in Rotterdam and the first opportunity for age group athletes to gain selection will take place at next weekend’s Hell of the West Triathlon in Kilkee, Co. Clare.

Nine hundred and sixty-three athletes will compete in the Age Group National Championship event with five from each age group awarded a starting place in the ITU World Standard Triathlon Championships. Podium finishers will also gain automatic selection. In July, age group athletes will get another opportunity to qualify for the sprint distance at the Two Provinces triathlon in Longford.

Rotterdam 2017

Rotterdam will debut as the host of the Grand Final in 2017. However, the Dutch are familiar with elite triathlon, having held a World Cup in 2010 in Holten, as well as the Cross Triathlon World Championships in The Hague last year.  Rotterdam LOC has proposed a circuit in the heart of the city on the famous peninsula Kop van Zuid in front of the popular New York Hotel, making it a pristine spot for spectators and supporters to capture top-notch elite and age group triathlon action.

The two national championships will also act as qualifiers for the European Triathlon Championships. The 2017 European Sprint Distance Triathlon Championships will take place in Dusseldorf, Germany followed by the 2017 European Standard Distance Triathlon Championships taking place in Kitzbuehel, Austria.
