Pulse Port Beach Super Series Preview

The fifth and final round of the 2017 Super Series takes place at Pulse Port Beach Triathlon on Saturday morning.

As well as being one of the season highlights, with a flat course and a friendly atmosphere, Pulse Port Beach could well decide the outcome of a number of categories in the Super Series 2017 - for a complete round up of what's at stake and to see where the various athletes currently lie, check out our points update.

With the exception of Two Provinces, there is probably no flatter and faster course on the triathlon circuit than Pulse. Between the Super Series and the National Series events on Saturday, hundreds of people will race Port Beach.

You can find the club's race briefing with full timetable and course details on their website.

Women's Race

Fresh from her victory at Lough Key last weekend, National Champion Heather Foley starts Pulse as the one to beat. But there are plenty of other women in the 13 strong field with fast improving abilities that can't be ruled out, chief amongst them Elizabeth Carr, Jemma Speers, Caron Ryan and Laura Wylie (who finished a superb third at the sprint champs at City of Derry this season). Orla Walsh has shown herself to be in increasingly strong form as the summer has worn on while the always competitive Ellen Murphy and Emma Sharkey are also sure to be in the mix.

Men's Race

The men's Super Series race is the first off at lunchtime on Saturday with 31 athletes down to compete.

Among the favourites is Super Series Cat 1 leader Aichlinn O'Reilly - even a moderate performance from the Westport TC man should guarantee him overall victory in the league but he will no doubt be looking for more than just a solid points performance.

His chief rivals will be Alastair Rogers and Darren Dunne. Rogers recent victory at DCT saw him impressive across all three disciplines while Dunne has been in the runners up position in this race in 2015 but as a far more developed athlete these days and the reigning Super Series champion won't be lacking in self belief of his ability to win out.
