Triathlon Ireland Awards Night Winners

The Irish triathlon community celebrated the best athletes, races and moments of the 2016 season at the Triathlon Ireland Annual Awards Night on Saturday.

More than 200 people attended the sold out evening in Dublin's Marker Hotel with athletes receiving medals across the all age groups in the Vodafone National Series, National Championships and Duathlon National Series

White Wins Athlete of the Year

The prestigious Athlete of the Year award went to elite triathlete Russell White for his breakthrough season that saw him finish inside the top 15 of a World Series race twice.

DCT and Belpark Recognised

Dublin City Triathlon picked up the Race of the Year award while Belpark Triathlon Club were recognised for their good governance, interaction with their community and contribution to the sport of triathlon with the inaugural Club of the Year Award.

Top Trophies for Dunne and Hayes

Super Series winners Darren Dunne and Carolyn Hayes also picked up their trophies for winning the country's highest level triathlon competition, as did Tom McEnery and Lizanne Barnwall for winning the Vodafone National Series - Ireland's largest mass participation triathlon competition. 

For the second year running Darren Dunne was also the winner in the Junior Athlete of the Year category while Catherine Walsh was recognised for her achievements at the Rio Paralympic Games with the Paratriathlete of the Year Award.

Other Awards

The faces behind the events were also recognised on the night, with Joanne Allman of Tralee Triathlon Club winning Volunteer of the Year, Padraic Benson winning Technical Official of the Year and Oliver Harkin winning the Udo's Choice Coach of the Year.

Anne O'Leary Recognised for Contribution to Sport

Finally, Vodafone CEO and long time triathlete Anne O'Leary was recognised for her contribution to the sport with the Caroline Kearney Award.
