Talent Transfer Day

Aileen Reid London 2015Do you have the potential to become our next triathlete to compete on a world stage? Maybe you know someone who has untapped potential?

The Next Aileen Reid?

In order to continue Triathlon Ireland's presence at the top end of elite international racing, we need a strong group of athletes competing on a regular basis against the best in the world.

Aileen Reid is Ireland's most successful triathlete and is ranked in the top ten in the world. To ensure we sustain a high level of involvement in female ITU events, we have to find more athletes like Aileen who can make it to world class performance levels.

Talent Identification

Elite triathletes often come from other sporting backgrounds. Identifying talent is a vital part of the work of Triathlon Ireland’s High Performance and Development coaching teams.

This May we will be running a Talent Transfer day in the Foyle Arena to help identify athletes with the potential to become part of our Development Squad. Although this talent ID day is aimed at athletes from Ulster, women from other areas are welcome to apply.

We are looking for female athletes and para-athletes between the ages of 18-30 who have a proven background of sports training and competition at a high level. A prior experience in triathlon is not necessary.

What's Required

To compete at the highest level in any sport you need certain traits, skills, ability and drive to develop into an elite athlete. Some of the things we will be expecting from an athlete to begin with are as follows:

· Female aged between 18-30
· Have a proven record of performance at national or international level in your current sport.
· The ability to sustain a high level of structured and intense training over a 12 month period including racing and competition.
· Have a strong base of endurance training.
· Thrive in competitive environment.
· Be coachable, i.e. prepared to listen to advice and learn new skills.
· Show determination and dedication to a set target (competition or training goal).

Although we have a clear plan set out and a vision for what we want to achieve we will review the plan and make any necessary changes if we feel the athlete will benefit and add to the overall project. Testing venues will be selected to screen the athletes and select the final group to partake in the training programme.
