Swim for a Mile

Swim for a Mile Pic

Anyone who has signed up for their first triathlon knows that conquering the swim can be the toughest part of getting started. One of the best ways to ensure you enjoy your race is to practice well in advance over similar distances.

Swim Ireland are running a nationwide programme which takes people from 2 lengths (50m) to 1600m (a mile) over the course of twelve weeks. It kicked off in early January but it's still not too late to get involved and take part in a series of special events which will be held in 17 pools across the country in April.

Free Training Programme

Triathlon Ireland members can register to receive weekly training emails for the 800m (half mile) or 1600m (full mile) challenge, follow the training programme at no charge and discover tips and techniques for improved swimming.

Swim for a Mile Events

They can also sign up for a Swim For A Mile event where they can swim alongside others who have been following the programme. These events are timed so all participants will come away with a final official time for the distance covered. This will give you some understanding of how well your swim training is progressing for the forthcoming Triathlon season.

Swim Ireland are also designing a programme to transition those who completed the Swim for a Mile event to open water swimming culminating in a timed open water Swim for a Mile at the National Open Water Championships on Lough Ree on August 7th.
