Gary Swenarton

Triathlon Ireland is very sad to learn of the passing of Gary Swenarton.

Gary, who was one of the sport's stalwarts, passed away this week following a short illness.

Gary first became involved in triathlon in the sport's early days and was a long-serving member of the Triathlon Ireland Board. He was also a popular member of Peninsula Triathlon Club in north County Down.

TI CEO Chris Kitchen said his passing has come as a real shock. "Gary was heavily involved in triathlon both as a competitor and behind the scenes, he often won his age group in the National Series, represented Ireland at numerous ITU and ETU Championships and played a big part in the development of triathlon in the island of Ireland, he will be missed by all".

Contribution to the Sport of Triathlon

Triathlon Ireland President Lochlann Walsh stated: "We owe a debt of gratitude to Gary and the massive contribution he made to the sport of triathlon, it is a very sad day, my thoughts and best wishes go out to the family".

Triathlon Ireland is sure that the wider triathlon community would join us in offering our sincere condolences to Gary's wife and family, our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.
