Connacht Primary Schools Event

Connaught Primary Schools Event

Triathlon Ireland's Connacht Development Officer, Ross McLynn reports from Co. Sligo where local school children recently took part in their first triathlon.

Transition 2

On Friday the 22nd of April at the Waterpoint leisure complex and Castle Field in Enniscrone, Co Mayo, Triathlon Ireland and Youth Sport West brought 180 primary school children together to complete their very first triathlon.

The event took place in near perfect conditions with up to 12 schools in attendance with some eager individual competitors travelling from Longford and

Mayo to participate in what was purely a non-competitive fun event for all primary school children from 3rd class to 6th class.

Aerial Kids on Rock

This event has come on the back of previous successful collaborations between Youth Sport West and Triathlon Ireland but could not have been done without

the help, manpower and equipment of local triathlon club, Liquid Motion, the staff of Waterpoint, the support and co-operation offered by Enniscrone Parks

Council, the very capable volunteers provided for by the local secondary school transition year students, the civil defence for ensuring the health and safety of all

those competing, and finally but not least by the refreshments and time given volunteering by local businessman Gary Higgins of Centra, Enniscrone.

The schools were well represented from Beltra to Ballina and Castle Field was a buzz of action from early in the morning until the last wave of 6th class students

ran through the finish line to collect their well deserved medal, fruit and water.

Pool Action

With the right support in place and an obvious hunger for multi-sport there is no reason why the physical activity levels of all primary and secondary school aged

children cannot be enhanced.

Stokane Group

We hope to make this an annual event and if last Friday was anything to go by I can see this growing into a very successful and eventful outing for all.
