Ulster Aquathlon Finals

Aquathlon School

Over the last 2 weeks young athletes form around Ulster have been competing in their area finals to gain a place in the Ulster Aquathlon Finals. Schools from Derry, Strabane, Donegal, Omagh, Monaghan, Cavan and Fermanagh entered into what was a fascinating few days of competition. For some this was their first opportunity to compete a multi discipline event and test themselves against athletes form other schools.

The fastest 10 male and 10 female athletes from each area final were selected to represent their district at the Ulster Finals on the 6th December in Derry. This is the first time Triathlon Ireland have held a large scale schools event which leads to a Regional Final. Future plans are in place to facilitate a National competition in 2016.

The event on the 6th December is shaping up to be one of the most competitive Aquathlons in recent years. In the Primary school section the athletes must completed 250m swim and a 2.5km run. In the Secondary school section there are 2 sections, Secondary A which consists of 350m swim and a 3km run and Secondary B which is a 450m swim and a 3.5km run.

From this event we will have an overall Male and Female champion in each category and overall team prize comprising of a combination of athletes from their respective districts.

We have attached the final qualifiers from each area. (Belfast athletes still to be included). Athletes are asked to register from 9:00am until 9:45am on the 6th December. The event is taking place at the Templemore Sports Complex, Derry.

The distances will be the same as the area finals with athletes racing in different waves on the day. There is no need to pre-register or confirm your attendance. We will create the waves with all athletes included. If an athlete is unable to attend he/she is just left out.

Parents, teachers and coaches are encouraged to attend on the day and support all the athletes. Aquathlon is a fast, fun and hugely competitive sport and can be just as exhausting for spectators as it is for the athletes.
