Motorcycle Officials

The primary aim of the Motorcycle Official is SAFETY.  Whilst officiating on the cycle section of any race, great care must be exercised to ensure the safety of all competitors.

The Motorcycle Official's role includes observation of competitors, detection of infringements and imposition of penalties as well as identification and remedial action where necessary of any hazards that may develop as the event progresses. 

 

ENTITLEMENTS FOR MOTORCYCLE OFFICIALS

  • Free training
  • Payment for the race for which you are a Motorcycle Official
  • Accommodation: All claims must be approved by Triathlon Ireland before booking and paying for accommodation.  You must provide the original receipt (no photocopies or credit card/bank account statements accepted)
  • Travel/mileage: where appointed by TI the payment of expenses will be subject to the following maximum mileage (plus to and from event) incurred whilst officiating:

Sprint:  50 miles / 80km

Standard:  80 miles / 130km

Middle:  130 miles / 210km

Long:  200 miles / 320km

These limits reflect the fact that it is not necessary to travel at speed on the course.

Kid's event/aquathlon/dualthon..................€30

Middle distance triathlon..........................€75

Long distance triathlon............................€100

The initial subsidy fee will be based on the longest distance officiated, for any additional event on the same day - an extra €10 fee is paid.

Middle Distance  €75
Standard +€10
Sprint +€10
Total Daily Subsidy - €95
For any events where there is more than three races - a subsidy fee of €100 will be paid for that day.

 

HOW TO CLAIM ENTITLEMENTS?

You will need to complete an Expense Claim form and return to the Triathlon Ireland office. Once we have received your form, we will process it and deposit your claim of €50 into your nominated bank account, along with any other claimable amount. Please ensure you complete your bank account details on the form otherwise we will not be able to make the payment into your bank account.  Claim forms can be downloaded here.

 

HOW TO BECOME A MOTORCYCLE OFFICIAL

Triathlon Ireland will run training courses throughout the year based on demand.  The course is designed to inform motorcyclists about triathlon, introduce them to the rules of the sport with particular focus on the cycling disciple, safety and how to impose penalties for rules breaches. The course also provides an introduction to advanced motorcycling and the "System of Motorcycle Control" used by all advanced riders and Class 1 police motorcyclists. All tutors are fully accredited RoSPA Advanced Instructors.
