National Series

The 2018 National Series consists of a number of events made up of Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance races. The National Series is the premier age group competition in Ireland featuring some of the top events in the country. Series events are located in all provinces of the country in order to provide, as best as possible, an accessible spread of races.

An athlete’s 4 best scoring races in a season, of which 1 must be sprint distance and 1 must be standard distance, determine the triathletes ranking in his or her age group. Rankings are displayed in respective male and female 5 year age bands.

National Series events are also used for scoring points towards the age-group Club Championships. All club members must be associated at the time of the event.

The 2015 Vodafone National Series won the prestigious Sport Tourism Sponsorship of the Year Award.

Note: In order to receive National Series and Club Championship points you must hold a racing license for Triathlon Ireland when competing in the event

Junior national series

Junior National series is based on the best 4 scoring sprint races in a season.

NATIONAL SERIES POINTS SYSTEM

The National Series employs a “30th percentile” points system with male and female TI members ranked separately. The triathlete who is at the 30th percentile of all TI members in a race (say 60th out of 200) will be allocated 100 points. The scores for all other times are calculated by reference to the 30th percentile.

Note that the TI Member rule means that ‘One Day Membership’ holders, Category 1 athletes and triathletes who are members of a foreign triathlon association are excluded from the calculations.

To calculate the points for the male in 10th position:

Time for 10th male:   1:05:00

Time for 60th male:   1.16:00

Number of points for 60th male:      100

Number of points for 10th male:

= TH MALE> * 100 / TH MALE>

= 76*100/65

= 7600/65

= 116.923

To calculate the points for the female in 50th position:

Time for 21st female:                      1:14:00

Time for 50th female:                      1.32:00

Number of points for 21st female:  100

Number of points for 50th female:

= ST FEMALE> * 100 / TH FEMALE>

= 74*100/92

= 7400/92

= 80.43
